Meet Our Provider
Dr. Melda Gerow earned her Doctor of Optometry degree with Honors from the New England College of Optometry following her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto. She received extensive training in Ocular Disease management at various community health centers and hospitals in Massachusetts. Dr. Gerow also gained experience in primary care, pediatrics, low vision, and specialty contact lenses during her internships in the Boston area. Additionally, she performed pediatric eye exams for children with special needs at the Cotting School.
After graduation, Dr. Gerow, practicing under her maiden name Dr. Melda Esendal, solidified her knowledge in ocular disease and surgical management while working at a busy ophthalmology clinic. She has conducted numerous eye exams involving pre- and post-operative management of cataracts and is skilled at detecting difficult retinal pathologies. Dr. Gerow is also known for communicating effectively with children of all ages and is certified in MiSight contact lenses for Myopia Control.
In her spare time, Dr. Gerow enjoys cooking, hiking, playing the piano, running, and going on road trips with her husband and her dog, Becker. As a Winthrop resident, she loves spending time at the beach.
Dr. Gerow is a NBEO certified optometrist and a member of the American Optometric Association. She holds an active license to practice in Massachusetts.
